The MB-88 is an "adventurous" step in the same direction as the MB-50. This mouthpiece adds substantially to the low register of just about any CC or BBb tuba. Arnold Jacobs often had a truly large mouthpiece for those special occasions! The MB-88 has a wide and deep cup, well-rounded toward the bottom. This is a mouthpiece for strong players, for those who desire a bold sound. The back bore is particularly open, to provide great weight and volume. It has been carefully calibrated to give the sound virility and power. The shell weight is moderate, to provide flexibility and response not normally associated with a truly large mouthpiece. This mouthpiece is not a direct carry over of the PT-88. The rim is more modern, the kind that professionals like, and the cup-shape and weight are different as well as the back bore. If you like the PT-88 you will love the MB-88!
